Avis Fleet shows its support for the Santa Shoebox Project

At the beginning of October, Avis Fleet staff members took part in one of our SED initiatives, this time it was in aid of the Santa Shoebox Project. This project started with only 180 boxes in Cape Town in 2006. In 12 years it has grown nationally to 762 594 donated shoeboxes. The shoeboxes are distributed to thousands of underprivileged children in South Africa and Namibia during the festive season each year.

Staff’s selfless generosity

The departments that participated in the Santa Shoebox Project were IT, Marketing, Human Capital, Sales and Operations. Staff generously pledged more than 180 boxes, which were more than anticipated, so two staff members kindly offered to transport the overflow in their vehicles.

On the afternoon of 5 October 2018, nine Avis Fleet staff members volunteered to help deliver the shoeboxes from each department to the Santa Shoebox Project drop-off zone in Meadowdale, Germiston.

The contents of each shoebox included a toothbrush, toothpaste, facecloth, soap, an outfit, sweets, a toy and educational supplies suited for the age group the department had decided on. The two wonderful staff members who arranged the initiative on behalf of Avis Fleet were Janick Beukes and Keitumetse Ivy Maakoe from the Fleet Accident Management department.

Information on pledging is available on the Santa Shoebox Project website: www.santashoebox.org.za
