Tips for a clean car Lewis Hamilton would be proud of

You use your car on a daily basis and for some it’s quite literally your office on wheels, so it’s bound to get dirty, but that doesn’t mean you should let it go to the dogs. Why is it so hard to keep our cars clean? You wouldn’t throw trash on the floor of your home, so why do we get away with it in our cars? You might be carrying all kinds of clutter in your car, think of the danger it could cause during an accident. Well, it’s time to shape up and learn how to keep a clean car even if you aren’t in the mood.

Stop using your car as a storage container

Make it your own personal policy to remove items from your car that should be elsewhere. This includes paperwork, jackets and food containers. For the things you do need in your car, keep them safely secured in the glove compartment or boot. You don’t want things rolling around and deciding to play hide-and-seek on you. If you don’t have time to clear out unwanted items during the week, simply set a few minutes on the weekend to give your car the attention it needs. Try to force yourself to do this once a week – this way you will have less cleaning to do. Make the cleaning process even easier on yourself and get a portable bin where you can stash wrappers, tissues and other smaller items. Be sure to empty out the bin whenever you stop somewhere.

Reduce your risk of grease stains

To ensure you have a clean car, avoid eating messy meals in the car. Sounds like a no-brainer, but when you’re in a hurry you might grab whatever takes your fancy and not think about the ride that comes after. Make it your rule not to bring messy food in your car, you need to be your own enforcer. It’s fairly easy for your car’s upholstery to absorb stains, use this home remedy to remove them fast.

Do a complete valet once in awhile

Bring out that vacuum cleaner, because you’re going to need it. Use it in every nook and cranny, that includes your boot, seats and cup holders. You can also use a vacuum and brush combination to clean your dash. Wipe the dust off using the brush and suck it up using the vacuum cleaner. Also try and wax your car occasionally, you don’t need a fancy machine just elbow grease and the classic ‘wax on, wax off’ approach. According to Mike Schultz from Turtle Wax, “think of the surface of your car as you would your face. It needs to be properly taken care of in order to have a healthy glow.” If you want a clean car that shines inside and out, wash your interior just as often as you wash your exterior. Stains that you leave over a longer period of time could become impossible to remove so don’t leave them for your next cleaning session.
